The Calabasas Tennis & Swim Center: More Than an Amenity, It’s Part of the Calabasas Lifestyle

Holly Hatch  |  October 2, 2026

When people ask me what it’s really like to live in Calabasas, I always tell them that it’s the little things that make this community so special.

Yes, we have beautiful homes, incredible scenery, highly regarded schools, hiking trails, restaurants and easy access to both Los Angeles and Malibu. But what truly creates the Calabasas lifestyle are the places that become part of your everyday life.

The Calabasas Tennis & Swim Center is one of those places.

Located on Park Sorrento, right in the heart of Calabasas, the center has been part of this community for decades. The City of Calabasas has referred to it as one of the city’s “crown jewels,” and if you spend any time here, it’s easy to understand why.

For my family, the connection is even more personal. My daughter works here and runs the swim program, so I’ve had the opportunity to see the center not only as someone who knows and loves this community, but also from behind the scenes. I see the families who come through, the kids learning to swim, the friendships formed on the tennis courts and the familiar faces who make this place feel distinctly Calabasas.

It isn’t simply a recreational facility. It’s part of the rhythm of life here.

A Calabasas Tradition More Than 50 Years in the Making

One thing many newer residents may not realize is just how much history the Tennis & Swim Center has.

The facility dates back to 1968, when it was originally established as a private club. It later became part of the City of Calabasas in 1994 and has continued to evolve along with the community.

That history matters.

Generations of Calabasas families have learned to swim here, taken tennis lessons, joined leagues, worked out, attended programs and spent summer afternoons around the pool.

When you live and work in a community for years, you begin to recognize the places that truly become part of its identity. This is one of them.

Tennis Is Still at the Heart of the Center

Tennis has always been one of the center’s defining features.

With 16 lighted hard courts, the facility offers an impressive tennis environment for everyone from beginners to experienced competitive players.

Programs include private instruction, clinics, leagues, tournaments, social tennis and extensive junior programming.

And the junior tennis community is something worth knowing about if you’re considering Calabasas for your family. Children can start by learning the fundamentals and continue developing their skills as they grow, including opportunities for more advanced and competitive play.

But you certainly don’t need to be a serious player to enjoy it.

One of the things I love about the center is that tennis can be competitive, recreational or simply social. It gives adults and children another way to become connected to the community.

And Then There’s the Swim Center

This part is especially close to my heart because of my daughter’s involvement with the swim program.

The center features a heated 25-yard Junior Olympic-size pool with year-round programming, as well as seasonal opportunities for younger swimmers.

Throughout the year you’ll see lap swimmers, children taking lessons, aquatic fitness participants, recreational swimmers and more experienced swimmers training in the pool.

For families with children, having this type of facility right here in the community is something you may not fully appreciate until you have it.

Swimming isn’t simply a summer activity here. It can become part of a child’s routine, an adult’s fitness program or something the entire family enjoys together.

Fitness Beyond the Courts and Pool

The Tennis & Swim Center is also much more than its name suggests.

There are cardio and strength-training areas, free weights and group fitness classes, which means residents can create an entire wellness routine in one location.

You can swim in the morning, play tennis later in the week, take a fitness class or simply come in for a workout.

That convenience is part of what makes the center so valuable. Calabasas has always attracted people who appreciate being outdoors and staying active, and the center fits naturally into that lifestyle.

Where Calabasas Families Connect

This may actually be my favorite part.

Real estate descriptions often talk about “community,” but community isn’t something you can manufacture. It happens naturally in places where people continually cross paths.

The Tennis & Swim Center is one of those places.

Kids take lessons while parents work out. Neighbors meet for tennis. Families see one another at the pool. Children grow up participating in programs together. Adults join leagues and classes and begin recognizing the same people week after week.

Over time, those little interactions are what turn a neighborhood into a community. And when I’m showing someone around Calabasas who is considering making this area home, these are exactly the kinds of things I want them to know about.

A Community Resource That Continues to Evolve

Another thing I appreciate is that the center hasn’t simply relied on its history.

The City of Calabasas has continued investing in the facility over the years, including improvements to the pool and pool deck, helping ensure that this longtime community resource continues to serve new generations of residents.

That’s important in a city like Calabasas.

Our community has grown and changed tremendously since that original private club opened in 1968, but the center has remained part of its fabric.

Why This Matters When You’re Considering a Home in Calabasas

After decades in real estate, I can tell you that buyers don’t ultimately fall in love with a house alone.

They fall in love with the life they can picture themselves living there.

That’s why, when we’re introducing someone to Calabasas, we don’t just talk about bedrooms, square footage and lot size. We talk about where you’ll take your morning walk, where your children might learn to swim, where you’ll play tennis on Saturday morning, where you’ll grab dinner afterward and which places you’ll eventually walk into and recognize half the people in the room.

Those are the details that turn a location into a lifestyle. The Calabasas Tennis & Swim Center is one of those details.

One of the Places That Makes Calabasas Feel Like Calabasas

For longtime residents, the Tennis & Swim Center may simply feel like something that’s always been here.

For someone considering moving to Calabasas, it’s one of the places I think you should know about.

More than 50 years after it first opened, you’ll still find children learning to swim, juniors developing their tennis game, adults meeting friends for a match, neighbors working out and families spending time together.

And that tells you something about Calabasas that statistics and property listings never can.

This is a community where lifestyle and connection matter.

The Tennis & Swim Center is just one example of why so many people who discover Calabasas ultimately decide they want to call it home.
